Sunday Selections – July 9th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Chelmsford and Ayr.

Chelmsford

5:05 – Shades Of Summer – 11/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection a winner over C&D in April, from 1lb lower, hasn’t been in the same form on three subsequent starts although there was more to like about her 4 ¼ length 4th of 10 at Lingfield 17 days ago. Neil Callan is back in the saddle and he’s 17 winners from 61 runners 28% +27.41 30 placed 49% when teaming up with trainer James Tate in the past two years.

5:40 – May Sonic – 13/2 @ Bet365 – May Sonic is twice a course winner over 6f took advantage of declining handicap mark when winning at Southwell (5f) in January. Nowhere near that form on two subsequent starts but returns from a 114 day break here (has won off 165 day layoff in the past) and if freshened up by the break is handicapped to be competitive. Jockey William Buick was 16 winners from 57 runners 28% +33.89 29 placed 50% when teaming up with trainer Charlie Hills prior to racing on Saturday and the pair combined for a winner at Sandown yesterday.

Ayr

4:50 – Redarna – 9/1 @ Ladbrokes – The top weight is a seven time course winner in the past including C&D and is also 8 wins from 19 starts +64 9 placed when racing with soft in the going description. The 9-year-old was thrown in the deep end for his seasonal reappearance when down the field in the Buckingham Palace Handicap at Royal Ascot. He drops a couple of notches in class here and Paul Mulrennan who’s won four times on the 9-year-old is back in the saddle. Down to his last winning mark and although he’s vulnerable to the three 3-year-old’s in the field he should give his backers a good run for their money.

Cheers

John
