Hi all,
All those winners earlier in the month seem a long way away as this week’s poor run continued on Friday.
Saturday’s selections are from Newbury, Kelso and the Curragh where it’s the start of the Irish Flat season.
Newbury
2:05 – Heltenham – 4/1 @ Bet365 – Has improved with each of his four starts over fences this season. He’s up 7lb for his latest win at Ffos Las but he’s only a 6-year-old and remains open to further improvement. The one to beat.
Kelso
3:35 – Doyen Breed – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Sandy Thomson saddles a couple of live contenders in Doyen Breed and Hill Sixteen. The former was a useful novice chaser last season. He pulled up in the Edinburgh National on his first start over fences this season but was back to form when 4 ¼ length 2nd of 3 to Minella Drama here (2m 5 ½ f) last month. Today’s 3m 2f should suit him better and he’s not badly treated if building on his Ayr performance. Ryan Mania takes the ride in preference of his stablemate.
Curragh
3:57 – Star Girls Aalmal – 8/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A useful early season filly last year who won on her seasonal return and then finished a 6 ¼ length 4th of 14 to Homeless Songs in the Irish 1,000 Guineas over C&D and a 2 length 4th of 15 in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. Not at the same level of form on her final two starts last year. No problem with soft ground and she could be a spring filly.
Cheers
John
