Saturday Selections – December 9th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Sandown, Chepstow, and Navan.

Sandown

1:50 – Colonel Harry – 7/2 @ Bet365 – A successful novice hurdler last season, showcased his potential for the larger obstacles when winning on chase debut at Chepstow last month. A preference for testing ground is anticipated and the odds of 7/2 & bigger make him a value alternative to worthy favourite JPR One.

Chepstow

1:37 – Dr Kananga – 17/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Looked a progressive staying handicap chaser two seasons back. Apart from a promising seasonal reappearance effort over hurdles, last season didn’t go to plan for the 9-year-old. Returns from summer wind surgery today and if the breathing procedure has had the desired effect, he’s nicely handicapped, if ready to roll after a 268-day absence.

Navan

1:42 – Canal End – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Improved for the step up to 2m 4f when winning a Fairyhouse maiden hurdle in April. The 5-year-old wasn’t suited by the drop back to 2m but still shaped with promise when a 4 ¼ length 5th of 15 on handicap debut at Galway 41 days ago. He was doing his best work at the finish at Galway and whilst his stamina for 3m 1f on testing ground must be taken on trust I think he’ll be suited by it and he’s open to improvement on just his sixth career start.

Cheers

John
