Friday Selections – November 3rd 2023

Hi all,

After two days without selections, I’m back with a ‘big bang’ today and not just a couple of selections but five.

Today’s selections are from Santa Anita, Newmarket & Dundalk.

Santa Anita

11:40 – River Tiber – 2/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Won the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and was a 2 ¼ length 3rd of 9 to Vandeek in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket last time. Looked in need of further than 6f that day and should stay a mile around here. Has the best form and can win what doesn’t look the strongest of renewals of the race.

Newmarket

2:00 – Expressionless – 16/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Won handicaps at around a mile at Nottingham and Epsom (both heavy) in April. Off for six months when only 9th of 10 at Goodwood 19 days (said to be unsuited by the track). Looked progressive in the spring and shaped at Epsom like the step up to 1m 2f would suit.

3:45 – Mayz – 10/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Seemed to improve for the step up to a mile and heavy ground when successful at Windsor 11 days ago. A 6lb penalty is workable if the filly can build on her last time out win.

Dundalk

8:00 – Blackcastle Storm – 17/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Top weight Blackcastle Storm is useful on his day and handily treated on a going day. He looked back to form when a 4 ¾ lengths 4th of 14 here (7f) 7 days ago. Has been dropped 2lb and jockey Jake Coen can claim his 5lb here. Can go well back up to mile.

8:30 – Autocrat – 12/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Took his Dundalk record to 3-6 when winning a claimer over C&D 14 days ago. First start for new yard here but has to be respected with a useful apprentice Wayne Hassett taking off 7lb.

Cheers

John
