Wednesday Selections – November 3rd 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Kempton & Dundalk.

Kempton

2:45 – Convection – 9/2 @ Bet365 – Caught the eye when a 2-length 5th of 14 over C&D, two starts back. Didn’t build on that promise on her nursery debut at Newmarket when only 8th of 16 on soft ground two weeks ago. Return to the all-weather is a positive for the top-weight who takes a slight drip in class here.

4:45 – Street Kid – 2/1 – Gen – A return to the all-weather saw the selection bounce back to form when winning at Wolverhampton 30-days ago. Unexposed on the all-weather, this is just his third start, and although he’s been raised 3lb for his last win looks capable of bit better on the synthetics.

Dundalk

5:00 – Zerinda – 9/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes –  Put in a decent effort when a 3 ½ length 6th of 14 over C&D on her handicap debut 12-days ago. Dropped out that day she was doing her best work at the finish and given she’s only had the four career starts she’s open to further progress om just her second start om the surface.

Cheers

John

Tuesday Selections – November 2nd 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Exeter, Redcar, and Fairyhouse.

Exeter

3:55 – Gaot – 5/1 @ Bet365 – Remains a maiden after five starts over hurdles but has form that suggests he can win a race like this. The mare’s best effort came when ¾-length 2nd of 11 to the well treated Dariya in mares handicap at Newton Abbot last September. She returned from a 13-month absence with an encouraging 5th off 11 at Fontwell last month.

Redcar

2:10 – Dubai Souq – 7/2 @ Bet365 & Coral –  The selection made all to win a soft ground handicap at Nottingham last October. Not at that level of form this season but his 1½ lengths 2nd of 7 at Yarmouth last time was a step back in the right direction by the 4-year-old.  Now 3lb below his last winning mark and can go close.

Fairyhouse

3:45 – Kashi – 3/1 – Gen – Well backed (9/2) and was in the process of running a big race when making a bad mistake and falling four at Cork 16-days ago. It will be interesting to see if the money returns for the 4-year-old again. If it does, I think the top-weight is set for a good run.

Monday Selections – November 1st 2021

Hi all,

Yesterday made for grim viewing. Sambezi fell at the first at Lingfield and Albert’s Back drifted in the pre-race betting like he had returned to the track with three legs and to be fair ran like he had.

Today’s selections are from Kempton & Hereford.

Kempton

4:10 – Crystal Starlet – 5/1 @ Bet365 – Is bred to be a lot better than a 71 rated filly. She wasn’t seen to best effect in race where it paid to be ridden prominently when a 3 ¼ length 4th of 9 on her handicap debut at Wolverhampton last time. Hopes are pinned on the first-time visor galvanizing her in the early stages of the race.

Hereford

2:25 – Frenchy Du Large – 100/30 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A welcome winner for Venetia Williams at Carlisle yesterday and hopefully she can bag another one here. The selection got off the mark at the 5th attempt over hurdles when showing improved form when winning a Ludlow handicap hurdle in March.  Looks the sort to do well over fences this season. It was heavy when he won at Ludlow so any rain and further ease in the ground would be a positive.

2:55 – Loup De Maulde – 4/1 @ bet365 – Trainer Christian Williams doesn’t have the best of record at Hereford, just 1-32 in the past five seasons but his horses are among the winners and hopefully he can get another one here. The selection has just had the three starts over hurdles and put in a personal best when 3rd of 5 at Wincanton 18-days ago. Looks the type to do better for going handicapping and looks on a workable mark of 88. Yet to race on ground worse than good and provided he handles an easier surface can win a race.

Cheers

Sunday Selections – October 31st 2021

Hi all,

A rare four selections for you today.

Carlisle

2:00 – Ahoy Senor – 11/4 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Took his form over hurdles to a new level when making all to win the Grade 1 Sefton Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree in April by 7 lengths from Bravemansgame. Has the cope to make up into an even better chaser and it’s interesting that trainer Lucinda Russell opts to give the 6-year-old his chase debut in a race like this.

2:35 – Albert’s Back – 6/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A winner on his seasonal reappearance last season before following up on heavy ground at Haydock. The 7-year-old looked to improved for the step up 2m 3 ½ f at Haydock, He didn’t get past the first on his hat trick bid at Wetherby in February but the handicapper has dropped him 4lb since that non completion. He goes well in the mud and can win this if ready to roll.

Naas

4:15 – Rosmana – 4/1 @ Bet365 – A winner on very soft ground when in trained in France. The selection has yet to win on her five starts since joining the Joseph O’Brien but has put in several good performances including last time when a 1½ lengths 4th of 13 at Leopardstown 8-days ago. She was doing her best work at the finish last time over a mile and looks worth a go over 1m 2f.

Lingfield

3:35 – Sambezi – 4/1 – Gen – The selection a soft ground Hexham bumper on his rules debutlast October. He built on the promise of his Sedgefield hurdle debut when winning a Fontwell maiden hurdle in March. Highly regarded as a chasing prospect by trainer Oliver Signy. It seems significant that the 5-year-old is being sent over fences so quickly.

Cheers

Saturday Selections – October 30th 2021

Hi all,

It’s been so long since we had two winners. Well, Ashtown Lad and Lady Adare did the business for the service yesterday to give us an elusive double. Despite yesterday’s success I’m still not totally happy with my present form but hopefully we can kick on now.

Today’s selections are from Down Royal & Musselburgh.

Down Royal

2:15 – Magic Tricks – 15/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection is a useful handicap hurdler at his best finishing a ½-length 2nd of 20 at Fairyhouse final start of last season. Not in the same form on two subsequent hurdle starts at Punchestown & Galway but bounced back to form when 7th of 18 at Listowel last time and would have been a bit closer but for being hampered at the last. Will pop up in a race like this and hopefully it will be today.

Musselburgh

1:30 – Doktor Glaz – 11/2 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power- The 11-year-old has a decent record on his first run of the season 1 win from 6 runs 4 places and trainer Rose Dobbin has made a good start to the month 3-6 in the past 14-days. The veteran will enjoy the soft ground and is below his last winning mark, albeit that was back in April 2018. He’s only had four runs since that win though and should go well here

Cheers

Friday Selections – October 29th 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Wetherby & Uttoxeter.

Wetherby

2:05 – Ashtown Lad – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – I’m going to take on favourite Ahoy Senor with the Dan Skelton trained 7-year-old. The selection a winner twice over hurdles last October/November, including here, is bred to be better over fences and won’t be inconvenienced if the rain has eased the ground.

4:25 – Finistere – 9/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Showed a enough on his sole bumper start and over hurdles last season to think he can win a race over fences.  Ran like the run was needed when a 5 ¾ length 4th of 7 at Huntingdon on his chase debut 17-days ago.

Uttoxeter

2:13 – Lady Adare – 9/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Won a bumper at Newcastle on her sole start for Micky Hammond. Has now switched to Harry Fry and makes her debut over hurdles here. Bred to win over hurdles and shouldn’t be far away.

Cheers

John

Thursday Selections – October 28th 2021

Hi all,

Nice to grab a winner at Dundalk yesterday. Today’s selections are from Stratford & Ffos Las.

Stratford

2:05 – Black Kalanisi – 13/2 @ Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook – The selection is of interest on his first start since switching to Fergal O’Brien. Granted he’s not been the most consistent of horses but he’s just 1lb above his last winning mark and the yard has its horses in winning from.

Ffos Las

3:40 – Blueberg – 5/1 @ Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook – A promising seasonal return from the 5-year-old when a 6¾ lengths 3rd of 6 to Samba Dancer at Stratford 24-days ago. The winner has gone in again in a better race at Cheltenham last Saturday.  Handicapper has dropped him 2lb since that run which is another positive and I think he can go well here.

4:15 – Lilith – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The former point winner shaped with plenty of encouragement when 3rd of 13 in a Chepstow maiden hurdle when last seen in action in March.  Bred to be a better chaser than a hurdler the mare can go well on her debut over the larger obstacles.

Cheers

John

Wednesday Selections – October 27th 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Nottingham, Kempton & Dundalk.

Nottingham

3:55 – Buriram – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The 5-year-old is proving most consistent without winning this season. Finishing runner-up on his last two starts at Chester and York. Proved his stamina for two miles when a head 2nd of 10 to Gumball last time. The drop back to 1m 6f shouldn’t be an inconvenience and another good run is expected.

Kempton

6:45 – Sharla – 7/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Is better on the all-weather than turf so its best to forgive her previous run on heavy ground at Sandown.  Very much respected on her C&D win in August and her 4-length 5th of 17 London Mile Series Final again over C&D in September. Granted stall 10 could be better but Rhys Clutterbuck takes off a handy 5lb.

Dundalk

6:00 – Zahee – 6/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection’s sole career win came over C&D in July off 5lb lower. Has been running over 7f on his last three starts. Back to form after a couple of low key runs when a 2-length 3rd of 14 5-days ago. Better expected back over a mile.

Cheers

John

Tuesday Selections – October 26th 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Catterick. Chepstow, and Bangor.

Catterick

2:05 – Country Charm – 9/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The filly’s sole win came over C&D last year and she seemed to return to form last time when a 2 ½ length 4th of 11 at Newcastle 18-days ago. Hopes are pinned on the first time cheekpieces and the drop back to the minimum trip having the desired effect.

Bangor

4:30 – Getaweapon – 5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A winner at Hereford last November before an excellent second under a penalty at Ludlow the following month. Ran too bad to be true when a beaten favourite on her handicap debut at Doncaster in January. If you forgive here that last performance, she’s on a workable mark.

Chepstow

4:50 – Sinister Minister – 8/1 @ Bet365 – Showed enough in two starts over hurdles for previous yard to think he’s capable of winning in the sphere. Handicap hurdle debut and first start for Sheila Lewis today. Capable of better now going handicapping and the yard had one to go well at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Cheers

John

Sunday Selection – October 24th 2021

Hi all,

Finally broke the losing run with One Journey’s all the way success at Newbury. Hopefully that success can be built on Sunday. Today’s sole selection is from Wincanton.

Wincanton

2:45 – Railway Muice – 11/2 @ Paddy Power & Betfair Sportbook – The 8-year-old has been in tremendous form this summer winning his last two starts over fences before taking advantage of a lower hurdle mark when successful at Huntingdon 12-days ago.  Up 8lb in a better race but I’m happy to chance that his improvement hasn’t levelled out just yet.

Off tomorrow but back on Tuesday.

Cheers

John
