Thursday Selections – December 30th 2021

Hi all

Sadly, the winning run came to an end yesterday. Today’s selections are from Haydock and Taunton.

Haydock

12:30 – Lady Bowes – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The 7-year-old won a maiden hurdle at Hexham last December. It was heavy that day and the mare ran well at that meeting again when a 4-length 3rd of 14 in a handicap hurdle. She was staying on that day over 2m 4f and could progress for the step up to 3m here.

1:00 – Farrants Way – 11/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The only one of the six runners that has yet to race over fences. The 7-year-old is having his first start since pulling up here over hurdles in February. Prior to that he had gone close on heavy ground here in a handicap hurdle. He looks a decent mark for his chase debut.

Taunton

1:50 – Cape Robin –12/1 @ Bet365 or 11/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A winner at Worcester in June. He bounced back to form when a 2-length 2nd of 8 to Reve in a similar race at Ludlow 56-days ago. That was the 7-year-old’s first start beyond 2m 6f since his point days. He showed he stayed an easy 3m 2f that day so today’s 2m 7f will be fine. Wouldn’t want the ground to ease from good to soft but if it doesn’t, he’s in the mix.

Cheers

John

Wednesday Selections – December 29th 2021

Hi all,

Priory Park did the business for us at Leopardstown yesterday. A good job too as my other two selections ran poorly. Most importantly its’ three successive profitable days. Can we make it four on Wednesday?

Today’s selections are from Leopardstown, Newbury, and Doncaster.

Leopardstown

12:00 – Shes Some Doll – 11/2 @ Bet365 – Got off the mark at the fourth attempt over fences when winning a Tramore beginners’ chase 20-days ago. Looks the sort to do well in handicaps. Slight concern that the ground was soft. close to heavy when she won last time and it was heavy when she won over hurdles. Apart from that she looks a on fair mark for handicap chase debut.

Newbury

3:35 – Fern Hill – 5/2 @ Bet365 & Paddt Power – Has to be respected on his neck 2nd of 7 to Come On Teddy in novice handicap chase at Uttoxeter on chase debut 22-days ago. That was the 6-year-old’s first start for 10 months and he was 7lb out of the weights that day. There was plenty to like about his attitude at the finish last time.

Doncaster

2:13 – The Cob – 3/1 @ Paddy Power & Sky Bet – Caught the eye when a 5-length 2nd of 12 to Pileon in handicap at Sandown last time. That was the top-weights first start since finishing down the field in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. A winner of Grade 2 C&D novice hurdle in January. The softer the ground the better for him.

Tuesday Selections – December 28th 2021

Hi all

Emmpressive Lady’s win at Kempton means two winning days for the service and it seems a long time since I have been able to say that.  Ok. Its just a small profit but its better than a 3pt loss.

Today’s selections are from Catterick, Leopardstown and Limerick.

Catterick

12:10 – Bitasweetsymphony – 3/1 @ Bet365 – Has made a good start since going over fences this autumn winning at the third attempt at Bangor 18-days ago. Up 9lb for that success but the 6-year-old is a handicap chaser on the up.

Leopardstown

12:35 – Priory Park – 6/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection showed improved form on his first start for 6 months when winning an 18-runner handicap hurdle at Thurles last month. Up 8lb for his last win but was value for more than the ¾ margin of victory suggests and as a 5-year-old is open to more progress.

Limerick

2:40 – Espanito Bello – 10/1 @ Bet365 or 15/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – This valuable handicap chase looks a good starting point for Longhouse Poet although I wonder if he’ll be better over further. A chance is taken with the selection who did well over fences last season. A winner of a beginners’ chase at Naas the 7-year-old then ran Coko Beach to 4-lengths in a Grade 2 novice chase at the same venue. Poor return over hurdles last month but better expected back over the larger obstacles. If he can cut on the errors, he looks on a handy mark.

Cheers

Monday Selections – December 27th 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Chepstow and Kempton.

Chepstow

1:05 – Zambezi Fix – 6/1 – Gen – A six-race maiden over fences. However, he was travelling like the mostly likely winner when falling three out at Ffos Las two starts back. He’s since finished 2nd of 11 at Sandown over hurdles. The 6-year-old looks to be on a mark he can win off and he finished runner-up here three times over fences last season. Needs to cut out the jumping errors but can win a race like this when he does.

2:10 – Kateson – 5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Could get an uncontested lead here and was back to form when 3rd of 13 back over hurdles at Aintree early this month. A three-time winner on soft ground. The 8-year’s old form figures at Chepstow are 121 and although he’s yet to win beyond 2m 5f looks the one to be with here.

Kempton

1:55 – Emmpressive Lady – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Was one place and 6-lengths ahead of Coded Message in this race last year. The 6-year-old should be better for her reappearance effort when 7th of 12 at Sandown 23-days ago with the return to 3m a positive. Handles soft ground and can go well.

Cheers

Sunday Selections – December 26th 2021

Hi all,

I hope you had a happy Christmas. Well, it’s back to the office today for me and the start of a busy week’s racing.  Boxing Day’s selections are from Wetherby and Wincanton.

Wetherby

1:00 – Twotwothree – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Won this corresponding race last year. He’s 6lb higher than 12 months ago but has only had one start since winning 12 months ago. That run came last month over hurdles when he finished 4th of 11 at Bangor. He should be spot on fitness wise for his return to the larger obstacles.

Wincanton

2:03 – Favori De Sivola – 4/1 @ Bet365 – Made it 3-6 over fences when winning at Exeter on his seasonal return last month. The handicapper put the 6-year-old up 6lb for that success but the selection is going the right way and will be suited by today’s extra furlong.

3:13 – Iron Mike – 9/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A maiden over hurdles but the 5-year-old has shaped with promise on both starts over fences. Finished an encouraging 3-length 2nd of 9 over C&D 12-days ago. Has been nudged up 2lb for that effort but surely won’t be long in winning a handicap chase.

Cheers

Wednesday Selections – December 22nd 2021

Hi all,

It’s the final day of racing until Boxing Day and today’s selections are from Ludlow and Wolverhampton.

Ludlow

1:45 – Desque De L’Isle – 5/1 @ Bet365 & Sky Bet – Made it 3-7 over fences when winning at Ffos Las on his reappearance last month. Set arguably too much to do by an inexperience rider when only 4th of 9 at Sandown last time.  Hopefully we can see better from the 8-year-old here. All three of his career wins have come on soft which is a slight concern. However, I’m hopeful he can give his backers a good run for their money given the form of the Venetia Williams yard.

2:15 – Didero Vallis – 9/2 @ Bet365 & Sky Bet – Ran better than his 29-length 6th of 21 in the Becher Chase at Aintree suggests. A solid enough jumper of a fence. He’s got a bit of an in and out profile but today’s smaller field will suit the 8-year-old, as his form figures in field sizes 8 or less are 1211P12. The P coming on his seasonal reappearance at Ascot in November 2019.

Wolverhampton

3:00 – Stay Smart – 9/1 @Bet365 & Paddy Power – The selection came from a wide draw and off a strong pace when a length 2nd of 13 over C&D 11-days. Has been nudged up 1lb for that effort but the 3-year-old is better drawn in here stall 6. Vulnerable in a slowly run race but provided they go a decent enough gallop he shouldn’t be far away.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy Christmas and I will back on Boxing Day.

Cheers

John

Tuesday Selections – December 21st 2021

Hi all,

Today’s three selections are from Ayr

Ayr

1:05 – Serious Ego – 7/2 – Gen – The selection shaped with promise on his first start for 7-months when 2nd of 14 at Hexham 34-days ago. Today’s softer ground will suit the 8-year-old and he’s one to be interested in here.

2:45 – Behindthelines – 5/1 – Gen – Has returned from nearly two years off the track with a couple of fair efforts including when an 8 ¾ length 3rd of 10 at Kelso 16-days ago. The yard is among the winners and the 9-year-old can go close here.

3:15 – Dubai Days – 11/2 @ Bet365 – A three-time winner over hurdles last season, including at Ayr. The 7-year-old finished a 5 ½ length 3rd of 6 here on his second start over fences last month.  First start beyond 2m 1f today but ran last time like he could improve for 2m 4f.

Cheers

John

Sunday Selections – December 19th 2021

Hi all,

Running late this morning. Today’s selections are from Thurles and Kempton.

Thurles

12:40 – Beating The Odds – 5/1 @ Bet365 – A hurdle winner around Thurles in March. The 8-year-old put in an improved performance when a 2 ¾ length 3rd of 18 on his handicap chase debut at Punchestown earlier in the month. Hopefully he will be ok on the good ground and if he is can win one of these.

1:10 – The Chapel Field – 4/1 – Gen – A winner over C&D last season.  The selection should be sharper for his recent seasonal reappearance over hurdles at Fairyhouse 47-days ago. On a fair handicap mark if the ground doesn’t prove to lively.

Kempton

3:30 – Charming Paradise – 100/30 @ Bet365 – Put in a much-improved performance when 1 ½ length 2nd of 13 over C&D 18-days ago. Nudged up 1lb for that effort but provided he can overcome stall 13 won’t be far away here.

Cheers

John

Saturday Selections – December 18th 2021

Hi all,

Another disappointing day at the office. Let’s hope we can turn that around today. Today’s selections are from Ascot and Haydock.

Ascot

12:40 – Imphal – 15/2 @ Bet365 – The selection shaped like he remains on a winnable mark when a 4 length third of 13 at Lingfield last time. Was set too much to do by a 10lb conditional that day and was staying on well all the way to the line. Can go close provided the ground isn’t to testing.

1:15 – L’Homme Presse – 9/4 @ Bet365 – Just the four starts over hurdles. The 6-year-old had been expected to do much better over fences than the smaller obstacles and so it proved when he made a winning chase debut at Exeter 15-days ago. He jumped nicely for a novice and can be expected to go progress further with experience. He takes on higher rated and more experience rivals in this Graduation Chase but looks a good prospect for the inform Venetia Williams yard.

Haydock

2:05 – Up For Parol – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The inform Jeremy Snowden yard 4-14 in the past 14-days and 7 -18 here at Haydock in the past five years saddles Up For Parol.  The selection won twice over hurdles in the spring at Wetherby and Ffos Las. He possibly needed the run when 3rd of 7 in the Grade 2 Persian War Hurdle at Chepstow on his seasonal return. A disappointing 11/8 favourite on his chase debut at Ffos Las 41-days ago. There could be excuses for that performance though as he lost a shoe and suffered a leg wound. Interesting returned to hurdles

Cheers

John

Friday Selections – December 17th 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Ascot and Dundalk.

Ascot

12:35 – Nordano – 11/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Successful in a handicap hurdle here over 2m 3 ½ f in February 2020. Got a big hike in the weight for that success but some poor performances last season mean he’s now 5lb below his last winning mark. The 6-year-old raced better in the first-time visor when a back to form 1 length 2nd of 12 at Leicester 15-days ago.  Nicely handicapped if building on last time.

Dundalk

5:00 –Acquiescent – 9/2 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – Back to form effort when a 2-length 2nd of 14 here over 6f, 7-days ago. The return to 7f will suit the previous C&D winner and the nicely treated 4-year-old can take advantage of a winning mark here.

7:30 – Never Back Down – 9/1 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – The top-weight seemed to show he stayed 1m 2 ½ f when a back to form ¾-length 3rd of 13 over C&D 9-days ago. The 6-year-old has been nudged up 1lb for that effort but can go well again with Colin Keane back in the saddle.

Cheers

John
