Tuesday 21st June

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Newbury and Beverley.

Newbury

7:40 – Atomise – 13/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Charlie Fellowes trained last year’s winner, so you must respect his runner Atomisewho was back to form when a 3 length 3d of 10 at Yarmouth last month. She seems fairly treated with Harry Davies taking off 5lb.

8:10 – Alablaq – 13/2 @ Bet365 – Trainer David Evans fresh from saddling Rohaan to win the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot can hopefully have another winner here. The selection is 0-5 on turf, both career wins all the all-weather, but has done enough to think he’s just as effective on the grass. Last time did best of those up with a strong pace when a 2-length 3rd of 8 at Leicester last month. He could get an uncontested lead here and Hollie Doyle takes over in the saddle.

Beverley

2:45 – Strongbowe – 10/1 @ Bet365 – The selection shaped like he was coming back to form when a 1 ¼ length 4th of 16 at Doncaster 9-days ago. He’s now 1lb below his last winning mark and should be fine over today’s extra furlong. Provided he isn’t slowly away, has been in the past, he can give a good account on ground that suits.

Cheers

Monday Selections – June 20th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Windsor.

6:05 – Mitrosonfire – 11/4 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Took advantage of dropping below his last winning mark when successful at Nottingham 11-days ago. Nudged up 3lb for that win but it’s hard to knock an inform sprinter. The selection hit form last June and kept his form well after. He’s the solid if unoriginal pick for a yard among the winners.

8:10 – Thank The Lord – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – No real form on first three career starts last season but there was more to like on his return from a 10-month absence when a 6 length 5th of 10 at Salisbury on his handicap debut 13-days ago. He’s probably capable of a bit better.

Cheers

Sunday Selections – June 19th 2022

Hi all,

Another profitable day at Royal Ascot and it turned out to be a profitable week for the service. Let’s hope we can carry the winning run into Sunday. Today’s selections are from Pontefract’s Sky Bet Sunday Series card.

Pontefract

4:15 – Highwaygrey – 9/4 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection is 4-7 over C&D although he hasn’t run at the track since last September. The 6-year-old is on a losing run of 14 but that means he’s dropped down 10lb below his last winning mark. Not disgraced last time when a 4 ¾ length 6th of 10 in the Zetland Gold Cup and drops a couple of notches in class today. A hold up horse if gets a decent pace to chase this is a good opportunity to bounce back to winning ways.

4:45 – By Starlight – 100/30 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The mare returned from an 8-month layoff to post a career best effort on RPR’s when a 1 ¼ length 4th of 9 in a Group 3 at Haydock last time. At her best on good or quicker ground the 5-year-old can get the better of likely short priced favourite Bartzella.

5:45 – Unplugged – 5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection returned from a 1078-day break to win on first start for the Michael & David Easterby yard here 13-days ago. That success came over 1m 2f and be steps up to 1m 4f for the first time today. The step up in trip shouldn’t pose a problem but the dreaded bounce factor could come into play. If it doesn’t, he can win off just 3lb higher than last time.

Cheers

Royal Ascot Selections – Saturday June 18th 2022

Hi all,

My final Royal Ascot selections from what’s been a profitable meeting for the service.

Royal Ascot

3:40 – Broome – 11/2 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – Hurricane Lane is the best of these on form, but the favourite is worth taking on his seasonal return, especially if the ground continues to be as quick as it is. Broome has 6lb to find with the favourite on official ratings. He will handle the ground and will strip a lot fitter for his seasonal return in the on his seasonal return in the Tattersalls Gold Cup last time. The Aidan O’Brien trained 6-year-old is the each-way thieves’ selection, if all eight runners stand their ground.

6:10 – Falcon Eight – The selection was well beaten in this race last year when sent off the 7/4 favourite but the ground was too testing for him that day and he’s better suited by quicker ground.  Last year’s Chester Cup winner wasn’t disgraced when a 5-length 5th of 14 in this year’s race. I would wait until you know that Trueshan is a definite non-runner before taking a price.

Royal Ascot Selections – Friday June 17th 2022

Hi all,

Here are today’s selections from Royal Ascot.

Royal Ascot

2:30 – Mediate – 4/1 @ Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook – Trained by Aidan O’Brien, sets the standard having won both career starts. There should be more to come from the daughter of No Nay Never.

3:05 – Twilight Jet – 8/1 @ Bet365 – There was plenty to like about selections seasonal return win at Naas last month. He’s returned to action arguably better than ever and looks to have a big chance.

Cheers

Royal Ascot Selections – Thursday June 16th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Royal Ascot.

Royal Ascot

2:30 – Pillow Talk – 15/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Pillow Talk won the Listed Marygate Stakes at York last month. The only filly in the field. Her connections won the Queen Mary yesterday and seem to have a strong hand of useful speedy juvenile fillies. She’s capable of better on just her third career start and should go well. Albeit Jockey Danny Tudhope seems to prefer Thunder Moor.

3:40 – Sea Silk Road – 2/1 – Gen – Is going the right way and there was plenty to like about her recent Listed success at Goodwood (soft). Looks the sort to better with racing and the daughter of Sea The Stars shouldn’t have any problem with today’s much quicker ground.

5:35 – Claymore – 15/2 @ Coral & Paddy Power – Reach For The Moon is likely to go off a hot favourite to give HM The Queen a winner. The colt has yet to race beyond a mile but on pedigree should stay and improve for the step up in distance. The selection is another who can improve for the step up to 1m 2f. A winner of his sole juvenile start. His run in the French 2,000 Guineas last time is best ignored, did too much to early out wide and he’s better judged on his 3 ½ length 2nd of 6 to Native Trail in the Craven Stakes on his seasonal return.

Cheers

Tuesday Selections – June 7th 2022

Hi all,

I’m taking a short pre-Royal Ascot break, so these are my last selections until next Tuesday. It’s been a busy couple of months and the batteries need recharging.  Today’s selections are from Chelmsford.

Chelmsford

6:10 – Kodiac Sign – 11/4 @ Coral & Ladbrokes-  The colt finished a 1 ¼ length 3rd of 7 to Bass Player in maiden at Doncaster last time. The winner ran well to place in Listed contest at Epsom on Saturday, so the form looks solid enough. This is just his third start and he’s open to further improvement.

7:20 – Sharpcliff – 5/2 @ Bet365 – The selection returned from a 10-month absence to win over C&D last month. He’s up 4lb in a better race but shouldn’t be far away in his bid for a four timer of the feature race of the evening.

7:55 – Naadyaa – 11/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Shaped with some encouragement on all three career starts, including when 6th of 14 at Nottingham last month. Open to a bit more progress on her handicap debut and is bred to be better than a 67 rated filly. Yards horses going well.

Cheers

Monday Selections – June 6th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Gowran Park and Pontefract.

Gowran Park

4:40 – Disco Boots – 9/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection won a Killarney maiden (good) last July and then ran well when 3rd of 11 behind a couple of improving handicappers on her handicap debut at the Galway Festival. Promising enough 2 ½ length 7th of 26 at the Curragh on her seasonal return last month. She shaped like the return to this sort of trip will suit last time and the yard is among the winners.

5:15 – The Insider – 6/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Put in a career best effort when a neck 2nd of 16 at Listowel just 4-days ago. He has a handy low draw in stall 4. Slight concern that he may have had a hard race last time but provided the quick turnaround doesn’t inconvenience the 3-year-old he won’t be far away.

Pontefract

9:00 – Fiftyshadesaresdev – 11/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Faces a Ralph Beckett handicap debutant and likely favourite in the shape of Vee Sight but the selection comes into the race in form after a recent personal best when a head 2nd of 17 at York (7f) last time. Up 5lb but he shaped last time like a return to a mile would suit and any ease in the ground won’t inconvenience him.

Cheers

John
