Friday Selections – July 1st 2022

Hi all,

The start of a new month and hopefully July will prove as profitable as June. Today’s selections are from Doncaster and Sandown.

Doncaster

3:20 – Regional – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – There was plenty of money around for the selection before his respectable 3 ¼ length 6th of 14 to Mr Wagyu at Epsom last time. He might just have needed the run after a 4-month absence that day. Provided he handles the drop back to 5f he looks the one to beat.

3:55 – Sandbeck – 3/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection made it 3-5 when winning at Haydock 13-days ago. The return to the minimum trip suited the 3-year-old and she once again showed her effectiveness on quick ground. When she’s on a going day she’s clearly a talented filly but she’s been well beaten on her other two starts albeit one was on good to soft and the other poor performance came at Ripon, a track which not all horses handle.

Sandown

4:38 – Happy – 9/4 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – There’s a good chance that the selection will get an uncontested lead. The 4-year-old made all to win at Beverley on his seasonal return and has run well on both his last two starts, in slightly better races than this, at Goodwood and latterly Ayr. He’s the pick of his jockey can get the fractions right on track that suits prominent racers.

Cheers

Thursday Selections – June 30th 2022

Hi all,

On the final day of the month, today’s selection are from Newbury and Epsom.

Newbury

7:03 – Crazy Look – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Has hit form on her last two starts finishing a neck 2nd of 8 at Windsor two starts back and then 1-length 2nd of 10 to Gale Force Maya in a better race at York last time. Drops to notches in class here and won this corresponding race 12 months ago from 7lb lower. Looks sure to go well again if in the same form as her last two runs.

8:40 – Queen Of Comedy – 100/30 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection got up on the line to win on her handicap debut at Nottingham 15-days ago. Bred to be better than a 68 rated filly the daughter of Kingman is capable of more improvement.

Epsom

7:11 – Papa Cocktail – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Hasn’t run badly on his three starts since he was gelded at the end of his juvenile campaign. However, he hasn’t looked set to add to his sole career win. Hopes are pinned on the first-time blinkers and the drop back to 6f having the desired effect to see him bounce back to winning ways.

Cheers

Wednesday Selections – June 29th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Tipperary and Kempton.

Tipperary

7:40 – Must Be Dreaming – 11/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection made a winning stable debut over hurdles two starts back and improved again when 3rd of 12 at Clonmel last time. An inform mare she could be nicely treated for her return to the level and looks competitive on the best of her flat form last spring.

Kempton

7:00 – Under The Twilight – 5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – One of three last time out winners in the field bounced back to form when winning here over 7f 28-days ago. The filly looks a much better horse on the all-weather than turf and she dug deep to prevail last time. Looked well suited to 7f last time but looks worth another go at a mile. Stall 12 could have been better, but William Buick booked.

8:30 – Gherkin – 11/2 @ Ladbrokes – Produced a career best when winning at Windsor earlier this month. The drop back to the minimum trip wasn’t an inconvenient as he got a good pace to chase. The selection is well suited to this C&D with form figures 2211 and has a good stall in one. Now 5lb higher but should go close.

Cheers

John

Tuesday Selections – June 28th 2022

Hi all,

Not the best couple of days but it’s been a good month for the service and hopefully we can bounce back with a winner today. Today’s selections are from Hamilton. I’m just hoping the forecast heavy showers materialise as all three selections will want some ease in the ground.

Hamilton

2:45 – Fame And Acclaim – 6/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Ended a 16 race long losing run when gaining a hard fought success at Haydock 19-days ago. The 5-year-old has only been raised 1lb for that win which isn’t harsh, and he can go well again provided the ground isn’t too quick. Showers are being forecast let’s hope they arrive.

3:50 – Kapano – 14/1 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – I’m going with Kapono in the hope that the ground eases significantly before the race. The selection looks to be working his way back to form. He wasn’t disgraced from the wrong side of the track when a 5 ½ length 6th of 15 at Thirsk last time. Mark is dropping and a useful 5lb apprentice has been booked.

4:25 – Refuge – 4/1 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – Was back to winning ways when beating four rivals over C&D 20-days ago. It was good to soft that day and although he’s got placed form on good ground both career wins have seen soft in the going description. He’s only up 2lb for his latest success and William Buick has been booked.

Cheers

Monday Selections – June 27th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Pontefract and Windsor.

Pontefract

4:45 – Round The Island – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A six time C&D winner the 9-year-old is on a bit of losing run but he’s finished runner-up on his last two starts. He was beaten just ½ length over C&D two starts back and then looked the most likely winner when clear inside the final furlong before hanging right in the closing stages at Ripon last time. Not the most reliable these days but always respected here.

Windsor

6:45 – Anythingtoday – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection was placed to win his first starts after switching to present trainer George Boughey last winner, Form has an in and out look since but he’s dropped to 3lb below his last winning mark and seemed to respond well to the application of the first-time blinkers when a ¾ length 2nd of 10 over C&D last month. He’s been nudged up 1lb since, but Ryan Moore is up for the first time.

7:15 – Perfect Myth – 9/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A former useful hurdler the mare shaped with plenty of encouragement on first start for new trainer Stuart Kittow when a ¾-length 2nd of 10 at Chepstow last month. She was doing her best work at the finish that day. Lightly raced on the flat she’s got a very low mark (53) on the flat compared to her hurdles one.

Cheers

Sunday Selections – June 26th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from the Curragh, Uttoxeter and Cartmel.

Curragh

3:45 – My Astra – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A cracking renewal of the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes. My Astra Looked a potential Group 1 horse when running out a 12-length winner of a Ayr Listed race last time. Like her stablemate Purplepay a bit of ease in the ground will suit. The lightly raced 4-year-old is open to further improvement and should go well.

Uttoxeter

2:30 – Pounding Poet – 9/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection was back to winning way at Market Rasen (good) last time. Looked better than ever on just his second start beyond 2m 5f that day and although he’s been raised 4lb he’s unexposed as a staying hurdler. Provided they go a decent gallop he should go close again for a yard 1-1 in the past 14-days.

Cartmel

2:20 – Alqamar – 5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Made it 3-3 over C&D when winning off today’s mark last August. The 8-year-old hasn’t been at his best on either start since returning from a winter break but he’s very much respected for a return to a venue where previous course form is important. One slight niggle would be the ground as he’s probably at his best on genuinely good ground. Hopefully the heavy showers stay away from Cartmel and if they do, he’s the pick.

Cheers

John

Saturday Selections – June 25th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Newmarket and the Curragh.

Newmarket

2:05 – Lezoo – 7/2 @ Bet365 – Frankie Dettori was the big news off the track yesterday. As it was announced that he and would be taking a “sabbatical” from riding the yards horse. Well, the jockey is back from a short holiday to ride the selection here. There was plenty to like about the breeze-up purchases racecourse debut success at Bath 14-days ago.  Today’s extra furlong will suit the filly and she can give trainer Ralph Beckett a second win in the race.

Curragh

2:35 – Straight Answer – 9/2 @ Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook – The selection bounced back from a below par run at Naas when finishing a 2-length 2nd of 5 to stablemate Dr Zempf in a Group 3 at Leopardstown 16-days ago. There was plenty to like about the colt’s finishing effort over 7f that day to think he will be suited by the step up to a mile. Trainer Ger Lyons had a treble at the Curragh on Friday.

4:20 – Rumbles Of Thunder – 9/4 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – Put in much improved display to win a Gowran Park Listed race last month. That was her first success for new trainer Paddy Twomey since switching from France last December. There should be more to come from her, and she be able to hold her own in Group 3 company. Yard has a good record at the Curragh with 15 winners from 50 runners 30% +21.12 27 placed 54% since 2016.

Cheers

Friday Selections – June 24th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Newcastle and Newmarket.

Newcastle

5:30 – Mango Bay – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Showed he was effective here when a 1 ¾ length 4th of 8 to Dual Identity on his seasonal return and he’s 3lb better off with the winner today.  He’s since scrambled home to win at Yarmouth last month and looks set to go close here.

Newmarket

8:10 – Al Simmo – 5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection a winner at Ripon two starts back showed she remains in form when a 2 ½ length 3rd of 10 to Gale Force Maya in a better race at York 14-days ago. Capable of another big run today although she wouldn’t want the ground to ease much before post time.

Cheers

John

Thursday Selections – June 23rd 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Newmarket’s July Course.

Newmarket

4:20 – Nuvolari – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Looked capable of better in handicap when a 2 ¼ length 4th of 11 at Goodwood (1m) two starts back. Not disgraced but not at his best dropped back to 7f in a better race at Epsom last time. Needs to settle better for the return to a mile but if he does, he’s capable of going close.

4:55 – Mr Chua – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Has run respectably, nor more, on both starts since returning from wind surgery (third).  However, he’s on a fair mark at present. There’s also a decent chance he will get an uncontested lead in this 2m handicap. Jim Crowley is back in the saddle form figures 12 on the gelding and the 6-year-old’s form figures when racing between 16 to 30 days since his last start are 2112.

Cheers

John

Wednesday Selections – June 22nd 2022

Hi all,

After a couple of fallow days, the service bounced back to winning ways when the well-backed Alablaq got a well-judged ride from Hollie Doyle to win at Newbury last evening.

Today’s selections are from Salisbury

Salisbury

3:15 – Dubai Mirage – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes –  Doesn’t have the best of win strike rates 1-16 on turf and is on a bit of a losing. He looked a tricky ride last season, but the top-weight can’t be faulted on last two efforts when runner-up at Meydan and when a 3-length 2nd of 6 to Dark Shift at Nottingham last month. The winner has since gone onto win the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot, so he was taking on a well handicapped horse that day.

Carlisle

2:25 – Tangled – 11/4 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection is 2-4 over C&D and bounced back to form for this first time this season when coming from off the pace to finish a neck 2nd of 9 at Beverley 8-days ago. He got the strong pace he requires last time and should get the same pace set up here. He’s won on good to firm ground and the yard has its horses in good form 3-8 in the past two weeks.

Cheers

John
