Tuesday Selections – November 15th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Fakenham, Lingfield and Newcastle.

Fakenham

1:22 – Sabbathical – 2/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Won this race last year off a 2lb higher mark. Expected to be spot on fitness wise after his recent return to action over hurdles 23-days ago and must have a good chance of repeating last year’s success.

Lingfield

3:30 – Bobalot – 3/1 @ Bet365 – Made a winning seasonal return at Ffos las 20-days ago. The 5-year-old improved for the step up to 3m on his handicap hurdle debut that day. Has a 5lb contend with here but is unexposed over staying distances and can go in again.

Newcastle

7:15 – Going Underground – 2/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection won over C&D last month and looked unlucky when a ½-length 3rd of 14 back here 11-days ago. Nudged up 2lb but should remain competitive.

Cheers

Monday Selection – November 14th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selection is from Exeter.

Exeter

3:00 – Masters Legacy –13/8 @ Bet365 – You can give all four runners in this 3m handicap chase some chance. Chase debutant Mr Glass has been made favourite, but I prefer the claims of the selection who won a similar race over C&D on his first start over the larger obstacles 10-days ago.  A 4lb rise in the weights looks workable for the 7-year-old who is open to further progress.

Cheers

John

Sunday Selections – November 13th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Fontwell.

2:05 – Southfield Harvest – 3/1 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – Hasn’t been seen since making all to win a Newton Abbot beginners chase 557-days ago. The 8-year-old has only had the one start over fences but is related to winning chasers and surely capable of rating higher than a mark of 135 over the larger obstacles.

3:50 – Brown Bullet – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A previous course winnerthe mare was a solid 2nd of 7 on her seasonal reappearance at Plumpton (2m) 13-days ago. She should be suited by the return to today’s longer distance and capable of going close.

Cheers

John

Saturday Selections – November 12th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Cheltenham and Uttoxeter.

Cheltenham

3:30 – Ella Perfecta – 5/1 @ Bet365 & Coral – Back to winning ways returned to 2m 4f when beating 14 rivals at Listowel in September. Now 13lb higher but she’s a progressive mare who has only had four starts over hurdles and is capable of more improvement.

4:05 – Queens Gamble – 100/30 – The selection impressed when making a winning racecourse debut here in April showing a good turn of foot in the process. The good ground suited the mare that day and she could be the best horse Oliver Sherwood has trained in recent seasons.

Uttoxeter

2:12 – Premier D’troice – 7/1 @ Bet365 – Won over C&D in June now 8lb higher but had a bit in hand last time and remains competitively weighted even off his revised mark. Returns from a 150-day lay off with the drying ground in the 8-year-old’s favour.

Cheers

John

Friday Selections – November 11th 2022

Hi all,

Many apologies, I was so busy on Thursday morning that I forget to let you know there were no selections yesterday.

Today’s selections are from Wolverhampton and Dundalk.

Wolverhampton

7:30 – Ciotog – 5/1 @ Bet365 – Broke his maiden tag at the tenth attempt when winning over C&D and showed his liking for the surface when a short head 2nd of 13 over C&D 11-days ago. Hasn’t been favoured by the draw again but will be dropped in and ridden for luck. Provide they go an even gallop he should go close off the same mark as last time.

Dundalk

6:15 – Iva Feeling – 9/1 @ Bet365 – A winner of a maiden (1m) here two years ago she hasn’t had many goes since but shaped with encouragement when a 2 ¼ lengths 4th of 14 over C&D last month. Wasn’t best away but if she can break on level terms shouldn’t be far away here. The draw hasn’t been the kindest in 13 but Jake Coen takes off a handy 5lb.

6:45 – Ceallach – 9/4 – Gen – Has improved for the switch to the synthetics and the step into handicap company. A winner of a maiden here (1m 2 ½ f) in July. The 3-year-old returned from 4 month to finish a neck 2nd of 14 to stablemate Golden Twilight over C&D 14-days ago. Up 2lb and has stall 12 to contend with but still looks the one to beat.

Cheers

Wednesday Selections – November 9th 2022

Hi all,

It was important to get back among the winners on Tuesday although Highstakesplayer might have been a slightly fortuitous winner as Ede’iffs Elton was upside and I thought going slightly better when falling two out.

Today’s selections are from Ayr.

Ayr

2:55 – Grand Voyage – 13/8 @ Bet365 – Twice a winner over hurdles at Kelso last December. The selection returned from a 10 month layoff to shape with plenty of promise when a ½-length 2nd of 3 at Carlisle on chase debut last month. Suited to soft ground over hurdles he’s open to improvement on his handicap chase debut.

3:55 – Charm Offensive – 5/2 @ Bet365 –  Ended last season with two course wins on soft & heavy ground. The latest in March came in the first time cheekpieces and if the headgear continues to have the desired effect, she’ll be hard to beat off just 4lb higher. Looks worth chancing despite the lack of recent run.

Cheers

Tuesday Selections – November 8th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Hereford, Fairyhouse and Lingfield.

Hereford

3:15 – Highstakesplayer – 13/8 @ Coral – Twice a winner over hurdles the selection made a winning debut over fences over C&D 8-days ago. Has a 7lb penalty to carry for last week’s success but there should be more to come from the 6-year-old.

Fairyhouse

2:52 – Londonofficecallin – 7/2 – Gen – Has finished runner-up on his last two starts; was set plenty to do when an 8 length 2nd of 17 at Cork last month. Today’s extra furlong and the booking of Danny Mullins could see the 5-year-old gain a well-deserved breakthrough success over hurdles.

Lingfield

2:00 – Art Of Illusion – 5/1 @ Bet365 & Coral – A six race maiden over hurdles the 5-year-old made a successful debut over the larger obstacles when beating three rivals at Plumpton last month. He jumped well at Plumpton and although this will demand a bit more he’s only been raised 3lb so he’s got a decent chance of following up.

Cheers

John

Monday Selection – November 7th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selection is now from Wolverhampton after the abandonment of Carlisle.

Wolverhampton

8:00– Lucky San Jore – 9/4 @ Bet365 & Coral – Two from two since joining Marco Botti with both wins coming over C&D. He’s up 5lb in a better race but seemed to be well on top when winning last time and there should be more races to be won with the 3-year-old this winter.

Cheers

John

Sunday Selections – November 6th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Ffos Las and Naas.

Ffos Las

2:15 – Dentley De Mee – 5/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection has been off for 539-days and has his first start for Venetia Williams here. It will be interesting to see how he fares in the pre-race betting. Trainer is more than capable of preparing a handicap chaser to go close off a long layoff. The selection can race off the same mark as for his last win in February 2021.

Naas

2:57 – Yaxeni – 9/4 – Gen – Took her Naas form figures to 4311 when winning a Listed race over C&D three weeks ago. The mare loves the mud having won on testing ground last time and winning the November Handicap on this card 12 months ago.

3:57 – Team Of Firsts – 5/1 @ Bet365 –  Plenty short enough given his recent form but he hasn’t had the testing ground he likes this season, form figures on heavy 211. If he can reproduce the form of last year’s win in this race, he wins.

Cheers

John

Saturday Selections – November 5th 2022

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Doncaster, Wincanton and Keeneland.

Doncaster

2:39 – Young Fire – 9/2 @ Bet365 –  All the selections four career wins have come on testing ground and is on a losing run since July 2021 but hasn’t really had a chance to run on his favoured ground. The 7-yeat-old, finished runner-up in last years race off 8lb higher. Back to form last time when a 3 ¼ length 4th of 15 over C&D when not getting a clear run 1f out. Needs all the card to fall right but when they do he’s on a winnable mark.

Wincanton

3:00 – Knappers Hill – 9/4 @ Bet365 – Sceau Royal bids for a hat trick of wins in the race and will be tough to beat. However, the selection who ended last season with a win in a Sandown handicap and returned to action this season with an improved success in the valuable Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow last month. Needs to improve again to beat the favourite but he’s progressive and might be capable of doing so.

Keeneland

5:10 –  Cyberknife – 4/1 @ William Hill – The trainer knows what required to win the race having saddled the winner in 2020.  The 3-year-old is a dual Group 1 winner against his own age group and 3-year-old’s have won 3 last 5 renewals of the race. Not sure about stall 9 but he should give his backers a good run for their money in an open looking race.

Cheers

John
