Kelso

2:25 – Nemean Lion – 7/2 @ Bet365 – Has improved with each of his three starts over hurdles. The 6-year-old comes into the race with the best form after his 3½ lengths 3rd of 8 to Tahmuras in Grade 1 Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle at Sandown last time.

3:35 – The Shunter – 2/1 @ Bet365 – Won the Morebattle Hurdle on this day two years ago and remains the most interesting of the five runners. A smart hurdler/chaser on his day he should be nicely positioned in a steadily run race and could make it a memorable afternoon for Emmet Mullins at Kelso.

Cheers

John

Thursday Selections – March 2nd 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Ludlow.

Ludlow

2:25 – Ucanaver. – 8/1 @ Bet365 –  Anthony Honeyball won this in 2020 and he’s 4-10 40% + 39.50 with his runners here in the past 5-years. He saddles Ucanaver. The mare didn’t take to fences on her first two starts this season but was back to form over hurdles last time when a neck 2nd of 5 at Southwell in December. On a competitive mark for an inform yard.

4:45 – Energy One – 9/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Trainer Philip Hobbs had a welcome winner at Taunton yesterday and he could have another here with the selection. The 5-year-old has shaped in novices hurdles like she could do well when going handicapping. Struggled in soft ground at Warwick when last seen in action 61-days ago but the return to better ground should show her in a better light.

Cheers

Wednesday Selections – March 1st 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Wincanton, Lingfield and Kempton.

Wincanton

3:45 – Cap Du Mathan – 15/8 @ Bet365 – Hasn’t gone up in the weights after beating three rivals in novice chase at Exeter 17-days ago. He jumped well that day, likes good ground and has a favourites chance. I would prefer 2/1 or bigger but 15/8 is acceptable.

Lingfield

2:30 – Beautiful Sunrise – 3/1 @ Bet365 – Returned from an 8 month layoff and gelding operation with an improved effort when a 2 length 2nd of 10 at Kempton 25-days ago. He might just have needed it last time and if he’s progressed looks on a winnable mark.

Kempton

7:30 – Tomahawk King – 4/1 @ Bet365 & Coral – A winner at Wolverhampton in October wasn’t ideally placed when a staying on 3 ¾ lengths 5th of 9 on handicap debut here (7f) last time. This evening’s extra furlong should be fine, but he probably wouldn’t want the race to get tactical.

Cheers

Monday Selections – February 27th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Plumpton and Wolverhampton.

Plumpton

3:00 – Sublime Heights – 5/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Edged ahead on the run in to win over C&D last month. Both his career wins have come here, and he goes well on a sound surface. A 5lb rise in the weights makes life harder but I think he can go in again.

3:35 – Mistral Nell – 8/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Has improved with each of her three starts over hurdles. Producing a career best on RPR’s when a 6 ¾ length 4th of 11 at Wetherby 23-days ago. The step up to an extended 2m 4f on handicap debut should see more progress from the mare.

Wolverhampton

7:00 – Wreck It Ryley – 7/2 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – Has steadily improved with each of his four starts. Getting off the mark at Southwell 15-days ago. Up 3lb but can follow up if improving again.

Cheers

Warwick

3:00 – Precious Eleanor – 100/30 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Provided the ground is good I’m happy to take a chance with previous C&D winner Precious Eleanor.

Wolverhampton

6:45 – Gavi Di Gavi – 13/2 @ Bet365 –  A C&D winner and down to his last winning mark. He comes into the race in decent form and could be ready to return to winning ways.

7:45 – Dark Design – 4/1 @ Bet365 – Another down to his last winning mark and comes into the race on the back of a decent effort when a length 2nd of 8 at Chelmsford last month.

Cheers

John
