Wednesday Selections – May 31st 2023

Hi all,

The end of a profitable month. Less selections, at bigger odds was the key the key to it. Granted such a strategy can lead to longer losing runs although that wasn’t the case during May but its something to be aware of going forward.

There are no selections today. See you in June.

Tuesday Selections – May 30th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Redcar and Ballinrobe.

Redcar

4:20 – Roaring Ralph – 5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Didn’t like heavy ground when last of 8 here over a mile on seasonal return/handicap debut. There was more to like about the 3-year-old’s 1 ½ length 4th of 8 at Newcastle 22 days ago. The first time cheekpieces he wore last time are replaced by even more severe headgear in the shape of blinkers. Bred to be better than a 61 rated horse and remains with potential.

Ballinrobe

6:30 – Je T’ai Porte – 15/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Got off the mark at the fifth attempt when winning a novice hurdle at Clonmel 19 days ago. Steadily progressive over hurdles. It was soft ground when the mare won last time but she has the potential to be even better on a sound surface on her handicap hurdle debut.

Monday Selections – May 29th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Windsor and Leicester.

Windsor

3:45 – Silver Gunn – 6/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection had the benefit of a recent run when winning over C&D last May. Returns from a 226 day lay off and now just 2lb above his last winning mark. Two of the 5-year-old’s four career wins have come on good to firm ground and with his yard among the winners looks set for a good run.

Leicester

4:48 – Grenham Bay – 5/1 @ Coral & Paddy Power – Had to dig deep to prevail at Salisbury (6f) 25 days ago. He was strong at the finish that day so a 3lb rise in the weights isn’t insurmountable on just his second start in handicap company. Slightly quicker ground here than he faced at Salisbury but can go well in his hat trick bid.

Saturday Selections – May 27th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from the Curragh and Haydock.

Curragh

3:40 – Hi Royal – 5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Runner-up in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket and if he had kept straight between the final two furlongs, he would have finished closer to the winner. He’s been week in the ante post betting today, but I would have Hi Royal and Royal Scotsman much closer in the betting than they are and he’s the pick.

Haydock

3:30 – Mitbaahy – 12/1 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – The 4-year-old won a Group 3 over the trip at Newbury in September before finishing 4 ½ length behind The Platinum Queen in the Group 1 at Longchamp. He wasn’t well drawn that day and wouldn’t have liked the soft ground either. On a sounder surface he has got better claims than his odds suggest and maybe capable of better as a 4-year-old.

Cheers

Goodwood

3:00 – Araminta – 4/1 – Gen – Won a Newbury maiden on her racecourse debut before improving further when a 1 length 3rd of 6 in Listed race (1m) here 20 days ago. A filly going the right way and a decent chance she’ll stay 1m 2f and land the Listed William Hill Height Of Fashion Stakes.

Thursday Selections – May 25th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selection is from Sandown.

Sandown

6:42 – Dapper Valley – 6/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The Listed National Stakes this evening could turn out to be the race of the evening with nine of the ten declared juveniles having win last time out. The one I like most is Dapper Valley. He looked a smart juvenile when winning at Newbury on his racecourse debut last month. The ground was soft that day, but he’s bred to be effective on quicker ground.  Looks sure to improve with racing and could be a Royal Ascot juvenile.
