Wednesday Selections – October 16th 2019

Hi all,

A tasty double on Tuesday courtesy Beechwood Jude & Takeonefortheteam. Today, I have to say, does look much tougher.

Cheers

John

Bath

1:40 – Our Oystercatcher – 3/1 @ Bet365 & William Hill – Comes into the race in good form after a win & second at Sandown on his last two starts. Won this race 12 months ago off 2lb lower, on good to soft, and looks set for a good run here.

Nottingham

3:40 – Global Gift – 7/1 @ Bet365 – The selection completed a hat trick back in May/June, including a win at Haydock on heavy. He ran just as well when 3rd of 7 on soft ground at Chester over today’s distance 18-days ago. Shouldn’t be far away here if he stays the trip.

4:10 – Ventura Flame – 7/2 @ William Hill – Clearly Ainsdale will be hard to beat under a penalty after his York nursery win 5-days ago. However, the selection filly made it 2 wins from 2 runs on heavy ground when winning at Hamilton 16-days ago.  Trainer and jockey had a double at Musselburgh yesterday and the selections liking for the mud means she could be hard to peg back if she gets her own way out in front like she did last time.

Cheers

Tuesday Selections – October 15th 2019

Hi all,

Musselburgh

4:15 – Beechwood Jude – 9/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection caught the eye when a running on 4th of 14 at Ayr over 1m 5f. That run came in a Class 3 handicap and this is a drop into a Class 5 race. No problem with the going for the 3-year-old and if he stays today’s 2m trip looks capable of going close.

Punchestown

4:05 – You Raised Me Up – 3/1 @ Ladbrokes & William Hill – Improved with each run, in bumpers including a win at the 2018 Galway Festival.  Returned to action after a 134-day absence with a highly encouraging hurdle debut at Listowel last month. Gets the hood today and should be capable of winning a maiden hurdle.

Hereford

3:05 – Financial Outcome – 3/1 @ William Hill – Twice a winner in points, the 6-year-old and was unlucky not to win over hurdles last season. Makes his debut over fences today, stays well and was effective on good ground in the spring. Trainer Rebecca Curtis won this race 12 months ago and has made a decent start to the winter jumps campaign.

Kempton

8:00 – Takeonefortheteam – 13/2 @ Paddy Power – The selection hasn’t the most exciting win strike rate 1 win from 20 runs but that sole win did come over C&D and he did well from a high draw when 4th of 13 again over C&D 43-days ago. Takes a slight drop in class here and shouldn’t be far away.

Cheers

John

Sunday Selections – October 13th 2019

Hi all,

Friday was bad enough but yesterday was even worse in some ways.  Mind you it was a tough day for punters across the board.

Both Goodwood and Newton Abbot have been lost due to the weather so there is no racing this side of the Irish sea on Sunday.

Curragh

2:40 – Fancy Blue – 4/1 @ Ladbrokes – Made a winning start on her racecourse debut at Naas 25-days ago. Looks to have the scope to make up into a good 3-year-old middle distance filly. How will she go on soft ground? That’s the big unknown and she been weak in the market this morning.

5:35 – Pulse Of Shanghai – 11/2 – Gen – Got off the mark at the 7th attempt when winning at Down Royal 43-days ago. Has since switched to the Paddy Twomey yard. A mark of 70 looks workable and the 3-year-old looks set for a good run if he handles the soft ground.

Limerick

4:35 – Internal Transfer – 10/3 @ Bet365 – The selection put in a career best when 4th of 18 in the Kerry National. The return to Limerick will be in the 8-year-old’s favour – 3 wins from 3 runs here – and he’s won on heavy in the past. This is just his 4th start over fences and looks capable of better still in the sphere. Will probably be held onto a big longer today and has a big chance if he truly stays 3m on what is sure to be a stamina sapping 3m.

Cheers

John

Saturday Selections – October 12th 2019

Hi all,

All my recent good work was undone yesterday with some seriously poor picks. Let’s hope for better today.

York

2:05 – Rich Belief – 13/2 @ William Hill & Bet365 – The selection has plenty of ability but doesn’t look the most straight forward of horses. He won at Wolverhampton in July. Before showing he handled soft ground when first past the post on ni his nursery debut at Haydock. Was second past the post but was demoted to third after hanging left in the closing stages at Newcastle 36-days. Gets the first-time blinkers today and although he’s up 4lb from his last run more than capable of winning off his present mark if the headgear has the desired effect.

Newmarket

2:55 – Molatham – 2/1 @ Bet365 – Beat Wichita at Doncaster and side steps the Dewhurst to come here. The colt should be suited to the step up to a mile and looks useful. Is the one they all have to beat if he handles today’s much easier going.

Limerick

5:30 – Dare To Flare – 5/2 @ Bet365 –The selection is 2-8 on turf this season. The last of those wins came on soft ground at Killarney back in August off 10lb lower. Has remained competitive on three starts since and seemed unlucky in the run when 2nd off 11 at Tipperary 6-days ago. A reproduction of that run would be good enough here.

Chepstow

4:30 – Zanza – 12/1 @ Bet365 – Made it 3-5 over hurdles when winning at Newbury in March. A winner on soft ground here last November the going and course will hold no terrors for him. Trainer Philip Hobbs has trained the 5-year-old at the race and he looks on a competitive mark. I’m surprised to see him a double figure price here.

Cheers

John

Friday Selections – October 11th 2019

Hi all,

A small profit courtesy of Old Jeroboam’s (10/3) win at Worcester.

York

2:00 – Stone Soldier – 7/1 @ William Hill –  Is well suited by soft ground as he showed when making all to win at Chester 13-days. Drop back to 5f shouldn’t inconvenience the colt who is now 2 from 2 since switched to nursery company. Up 5lb from Chester but remains on an upward curve.

Newmarket

1:50 – Platinum Star – 2/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection handles rain softened ground and impressed when winning over 6f at Ripon last time.  Looks a worthy favourite for the inform Saeed Bin Suroor yard.

2:25 – Final Song – 2/1 – Gen – A winner on soft ground on her racecourse debut comes into the race with the best form having finished third to Raffle Prize on her last two starts at Royal Ascot & Newmarket. She looks the most likely winner if she stays 7f.

Cheers

John

Thursday Selections – October 10th 2019

Hi all,

There are fine margins in this game as we witnessed yesterday evening with a short head separating a tidy profit from a loss.

Worcester

3:20 – Singapore Saga – 7/4 @ Paddy Power & Bet365 – The selection made her debut in decent NHF race at Cheltenham back in April. The form of the race looks strong with the third and fourth both winning since. Trainer Philip Hobbs has his horses forward this autumn and won this race 12 months ago.

4:55 – Old Jeroboam – 10/3 @ William Hill – Made it 2 wins from 2 runs in bumpers when winning at Southwell back in April. The 5-year-old makes his hurdle debut today and looks the type to do well over hurdles as the season progresses. A son of Jeremy he should be even better suited to more ease in the going but he’s effective on sound surface with both last season’s wins coming on good ground.

Exeter

3:30 – Keep Moving – 4/1 @ William Hill & Ladbrokes – The selection made it 2 wins from 16 starts over fences when a tidy winner of a handicap chase on good ground at Chepstow in April. The handicapper has put the 7-year-old up 2lb for that success which looks fair. He should remain competitive and shouldn’t be far away if ready to go after a 167 -day break.

4:00 – Nifty At Fifty – 4/1 @ William Hill – Made a highly encouraging return to action when going down by head at Southwell 8-days ago. Returned the 2/1 favourite that day which suggests he’s on a winnable mark. The handicapper has raised him 5lb for that effort, but he can still race off his old mark here. Provided that race doesn’t come too soon, and he proves as effective on quicker ground he can win this.

Cheers

John

Wednesday Selections October 9th 2019

Hi all,

Newcastle

6:25 – Red Line Alexander – 7/4 @ William Hill – The selection made a promising racecourse debut when 3rd of 8 at Ascot last month. All weather debut today but the filly should be effective on the surface. Her dam won on the tapeta at Wolverhampton and he sire Sea The Stars has a 42% win-strike rate with his progeny here in the past 4-years. We will probably see the best of her as 3-year-old, but she should be able to win a race like this.

8:25 – Northernpowerhouse – 11/4 @ Bet365 & William Hill – Trainer Bryan Smart is 3-6 50% +13 in the past 14-days and the selection looks capable of adding another winner here. The 3-year-old a winner at Musselburgh three starts back was unlucky in the run at Beverley 39-days ago. Is inform and is one to be interested on his all-weather debut.

Kempton

7:40 – Maksab –9/1 @ Bet365 or 15/2 @ William Hill – Has been a weak finisher this season but the 4-year-old shaped last time at Lingfield like he was on a winnable mark. Gets the first time cheekpieces which could help him to see his races out better and trainer Mick Channon is among the winners.

Cheers

John

Monday Selections – October 7th 2019

Hi all,

Two winners and two seconds from yesterday four selections meant a steady profit on the day.

Tipperary

5:05 – West Cork Wildway – 9/4 @ William Hill & Coral – The selection a twice winning pointer made a promising debut under rules when 3rd of 14 in a Listowel maiden hurdle 24-days ago. He runs in a bumper here today but looks to have a good chance of winning it. If building on the promise of his recent run over hurdles.

Pontefract

3:30 – Bodacious Name – 11/4 @ Paddy Power & Bet365 – Won twice over C&D last October, including this race, both those wins came on good to soft, but the selection has also won on heavy ground in the past so underfoot conditions shouldn’t pose to many problems for the John Quinn trained runner.

Stratford

3:30 – Eaton Hill – 6/1 @ William Hill & Bet365 – The 7-year-old returns from a 344-day break here but this previous C&D winner is very much respected on the form of his 2nd of 19 in a valuable handicap hurdle at Aintree in April 2018. No issues with cut in the ground for the selection who hails from the Kerry Lee stable who are among the winners of late.

Cheers

John
