Thursday Selections – September 2nd 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Salisbury, Chelmsford and Haydock.

Salisbury

2:35 – Pearl Glory – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Has won both starts. Showing a good attitude to prevail against the colts & geldings over C&D 13-days ago. There should be more to come from the daughter of Cotai Glory who holds a Cheveley Park entry. Has a great chance of giving her young trainer a first pattern success.

3:05 – Quckstep Lady – 4/1 @ Bet365 – Took advantage of a drop in the weights to win at Windsor two weeks ago. That was only her second start over 6f in handicap company and she remains unexposed over the distance. Today’s slightly stiffer 6f should also be in the 4-year-old’s favour.

Chelmsford

8:25 – Eagle One – 11/4 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection beat two rivals over 1m 6f here two starts back and improved again to finish a neck 2nd of 7 at Salisbury 9-days ago. Races like the step up to 2m can eke out some more improvement in the 3-year-old who also races in the first-time blinkers today.

Haydock

4:55 – Living Legend – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Returned from a mammoth 841-day absence when finishing an encouraging 3 ¼ length 4th of 5 at Newmarket 6-days ago. Racing from the front, he was only headed inside the final furlong when a lack of race fitness took its toll on the 5-year-old. Quick turnaround so there is a danger of the dreaded “bounce “ but if not, he’s got a good chance in a race where he should get an uncontested lead.

Cheers

John

Wednesday Selections – September 1st 2021

Hi all,

The service got back among the winners yesterday with Mereside Angel’s Ripon success at a rather generous 13/2.  Today’s selections are from Hamilton and Lingfield.

Hamilton

7:20 – Iris Dancer – 3/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection has been knocking on the door on here on her last two starts over 5f. She was very unlucky in the run here 5-days ago when beaten only a short head. Strong at the finish last week she stays 6f so the step up in trip is fine. Up 2lb but that shouldn’t stop the filly from going close again.

Lingfield

3:30 – Clegane – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Dropped back in distance and back down to her last winning mark the filly won over C&D on her second start since a stable switch last time. Her C&D record is 2 wins from 3 starts and given she’s up just 2lb for her last win she’s got strong claims of following up.

Cheers

Tuesday Selections – August 31st 2021

Hi all,

Today’s four selections are from Epsom and Ripon.

Epsom

3:25 – Arthur’s Victory – 5/2 @ Bet365 – A C&D winner (good to soft) two starts back the filly did well to overcome a slow start and muddling gallop to win at Wolverhampton 22-days ago. Up just 3lb but she’s an inform 3-year-old filly who probably hasn’t stopped progressing just yet.  Must prove she’s as good on faster turf but if she does, she can win again.

4:35 – Dolphin Vista – 5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Is on a losing run that goes back two years and has been given a chance by the handicapper. The 8-year-old finished a ½ length 3rd of 9 over C&D last time and with a clearer run night well have won. Can race off the same mark here and 5/1 looks fair odds about his chance.

Ripon

2:00 – Mereside Angel – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Has shown promise and travelled strongly when 4th of 11 at Beverley 20-days ago. Could well have finished closer as he had to wait for a gap 2f out. Makes his nursery debut off what looks a workable mark. Trainer David Barron had a welcome winner here yesterday and one of his runners was beaten a nose at Wolverhampton.

4:15 – Cloudy Rose – 6/1 @ Bet365 – The 3-year-old arguably put in a career best when a 4 ¾ length 2nd of 7 at Nottingham last month. That was the filly’s first start at 2m and she seemed to get the trip well enough. Has been dropped 2lb for her latest effort and if stall 9 doesn’t prove an inconvenience can go close.

Cheers

Monday Selections – August 30th 2021

Hi all,

Cartmel

4:45 – Brotherly Company – 7/2 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – Has been in good form since returning from a break winning at Southwell and over C&D. He got into a good jumping rhythm out in front at Perth and looked booked for the hat trick coming to the last. However, his stamina ran out on the run in and he lost two places on the run in.Up 2lb in a better race today. However, if he can get out in front will be hard to catch.

Epsom

3:10 – Corazon Espinado – 9/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The 6-year-old seems to reserve his best from Epsom 4 wins from 9 runs. The latest of those successes came in a Class 2 handicap, from 5lb lower, at the Derby Festival. He’s been below par on his last two runs but hopefully a return to a venue and a slight ease in class can enable him to win again.

Roscommon

7:45 – French Company – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The 3-year-old has just the five career starts but has improved with each of his two starts since stepping into handicap company. Career best on RPR’s when a ¾ length 2nd of 14 at Sligo 26-days ago. The winner has won again since so the form looks reliable and although the selection has been nudged up 2lb for last time but he shaped last time like the step up to 1m 4f could be ideal.

Sunday Selections – August 29th 2021

Hi all,

Dancing King’s win at Goodwood meant a small profit on the day. Today’s selections are from Beverley and Goodwood.

Goodwood

5:10 – Betty Crean L A – 9/2 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – The 3-year-old got off the mark at the third attempt when winning a Sandown maiden (good to firm) in June and the filly improved again when a ½ length 2nd of 5 at Windsor on her handicap debut. Effective on quick ground she shapes like the step up to 1m 24f could suit.

Beverley

2:30 – Catch Cunningham – 4/1 @ Bet365 – A steady improver on his first two starts over 6f the juvenile gut off the mark at the third attempt when making all to win at Newcastle over minimum trip. Same tactics didn’t work back over 6f when down the field at Goodwood (good to soft) on his nursery debut 30-days ago. Looks worth another chance back over the minimum trip, on quicker ground, with a useful 7lb apprentice taking the ride.

4:15 – Iron Sheriff – 4/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Remains a maiden after 12 attempts but has run well enough on occasions to think he’s on a winnable mark. The 3-year-old seemed to be going as well as anything when not getting a clear run 2f over C&D last time before eventually finishing a 2 ½ length 4th of 10.  Has been dropped a further 2lb since and should go well.

Cheers

John

Saturday Selections – August 28th 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Goodwood, Newmarket and Navan

Goodwood

3:00 – Dancing King – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The improving Nagono is the one to beat but the selection is a consistent and useful 3-yeat-old who is suited to a sound surface. He looks set to lead again and will be hard to pass if his jockey gets the fractions right.

Newmarket

5:35 – Abingdon Prince – 7/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Twice a winner last year, both wins coming over 6f, he’s been shaping well enough this year to think he’s on a competitive enough mark when all the cards fall right. Looks worth another attempt at the minimum trip in a bigger field. Trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam has her horses in good form 4-20 +2.50 in the past two weeks.

Navan

3:42 – Reverberation – 6/1 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – Twice a winner last year he’s been consistent enough of late but is edging up the weights for not winning. He’s well suited to a big field scenario but does need to be produced right on the line to win. Would have won at the Curragh last time in another couple of strides. Up another 3lb but Stall 3 is fine and the 6-year-old should get the strong pace he needs.

Cheers

John

Friday Selections – August 27th 2021

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from the Curragh & Newmarket.

Curragh

5:15 – Champers Elysees – 3/1 @ Bet365 – A Group 1 winner last year and top on official ratings is the one to beat if back to her best form of last season. Has yet to hit form on four starts this season and it’s her first start beyond 1m but she should stay today’s 1f longer trip.

5:45 – Ladies Church – 3/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection looked a useful juvenile when winning at Naas last month.  The daughter of Churchill only had to be pushed out to in that day and remains open to further improvement for her step up to 6f. Acts well on a sound surface and won’t be far away.

Newmarket

2:45 – Tasfeeq – 5/1 @ Bet365 – Had shaped well on his two juvenile starts finishing runner-up to Alenquer on his final one.  He made a winning seasonal reappearance at Bath (good to firm) in April and improved further when finishing third at Goodwood.  Bounced back from underwhelming run at Wolverhampton two starts back when 4th of 6 at Salisbury 16-days ago. That was his first since a gelding operation and he should be sharper today.

Cheers

John

Thursday Selections – August 26th 2021

Hi all,

It was good to get back among the winners with Broken Ice’s success at Bellewstown. However, we could have done without the 25p Rule 4. Still, it was good to end of short losing run.  Just the one today from Carlisle.

Carlisle

3:50 – The Grifter – 5/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection has shaped with promise on his three starts and comes into the race on the back of a good 2nd of 11 at Redcar 29-days ago. Remains work in progress and can improve for the step into nursery company.

Cheers

John

Wednesday Selections – August 25th 2021

Hi all,

Another day lacking a winner and like Monday we had to settle for two seconds on Tuesday. Today’s selections are from Bellewstown, Kempton and Wolverhampton.

Bellewstown

5:45 – Broken Ice – 13/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection maybe a 14-race maiden over hurdles & flat but he put in a career best over the smaller obstacles when a ½ length 2nd of 13 at Kilbeggan 18-days ago. Has been nudged up 4lb for that performance and returns to 2m 4f. He was well backed last time and it will be interesting to see if that support arrives again here.

Wolverhampton

7:05 – Carey Street – 7/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A previous C&D winner. The 5-year-old posted a return to form when 2nd of 6 at Musselburgh 19-days ago.  He’s got a handy low draw and should go well with Joanna Mason again taking off a handy 3lb.

Kempton

9:00 – The First Hurrah – 12/1 @ Bet365 or 8/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Has shaped with enough promise this season to think she can win a small handicap. The 3-year-old finished ½ length 2nd of 7 at Nottingham in June, off 1lb higher. Granted has a poor run last time at Bath to overcome but that was over 5f and a return to 6f is more in the filly’s favour.

Cheers

John

Tuesday Selections – August 24th 2021

Hi all,

A couple of seconds on Monday with Varna Gold going very close at Ballinrobe.  It seems like ages since the service has landed a double maybe today’s the day it happens.

Today’s email is with your earlier than normal because I’m out early in the morning take our lass to a hospital appointment.

Bellewstown

6:25 – Church Mountain – 10/3 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Overcame a tricky high draw to beat 14 rivals at the Galway Festival last time. The 3-year-old has been raised 5lb for that success but that was an improved effort and he’s capable of more progress with racing.

6:55 – Tide Of Time – 5/1 @ Bet365 – The selection has been running well enough this season to suggest he can win a race when all the cards fall right. Can’t afford to be slowly away around here as he was last time at the Curragh. Now 2lb below his last winning mark and can go well.

Bangor

3:10 – Tardree – 3/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Has been running well since returning from a 4-month absence, winning at Uttoxeter and Market Rasen 23-days ago. He’s been raised 8lb for his success which demands more improvement from the 7-year-old but that’s possible given he’s only had three starts over the larger obstacles.

Cheers

John
