Doncaster

1:50 – Barton Knoll – 3/1 @ Bet365 – Well suited to a sound surface the selection bids for a fourth C&D success. Not at his best on to starts, returning from a 5 month break in the autumn but hopefully another short break will have freshened him up.

Kempton

7:30 – Imperium – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – A chance is taken that four time C&D winner can bounce back to winning ways. Continued his below par vein of form when only 4th of 5 at Wolverhampton last month. Return to C&D is a positive but hopes are pinned in change to the first time blinkers having the desired effect.

Cheers

John

Monday Selections – February 20th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Carlisle and Lingfield

Carlisle

3:50 – Up For Parol – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Back from a 9 month absence with an excellent 3 ¾ lengths 3rd of 20 to West Balboa in Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton last month. Will be sharper for that run and provided he didn’t have to hard a race on heavy ground last time can take advantage of a drop in class here.

Lingfield

4:45 – Methodtothemagic –5/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes Modest over hurdles the mare made a promising debut over fences when 6 length 3rd of 10 at Leicester 19-days ago. Needs to jump with a bit more fluency than last time but has sound claims if building on her Leicester performance.

Cheers

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Haydock.

Haydock

1:30 – Afadil – 7/4 @ Bet365 & Paddy Power – A winner on the flat when trained in France won on hurdle debut for Paul Nicholls and followed up in a Listed race at Musselburgh 13-days ago. Good ground was fine last time and he’s the one to beat.

4:25 – Mr Vango – 6/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – The selection won a point 12 months ago and showed a likeable attitude to win a maiden over C&D on his hurdles debut in November. Not disgraced when a neck 2nd of 8 at Hereford 59-days ago.  Looks a future chaser in the making but he’s worth his place in this Grade 2 contest and is open to further progress.

Cheers

John

Thursday Selections – February 16th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Sandown, Leicester, and Chelmsford.

Sandown

4:45 – Twin Power – 13/2 @ Bet365 – Got off the mark at the third attempt over hurdles when an improved performance on handicap debut over C&D (good to soft) 12-days ago. There should be more improvement to come from the 6-year-old on ground that should be similar to last time.

Leicester

2:45 – Ben Buie – 3/1 @ Bet365 – A winner over C&D (good) two starts back. The 9-year-old has since followed up at Fakenham (good) 14-days ago. It looks like he got uncontested lead here and has a good chance of landing the hat trick off a manageable 4lb rise in the weights.

Chelmsford

8:00 – Engrave – 5/1 @ Bet365 – The mare a five time C&D winner, ended a losing run when winning at Newcastle two starts back. She’s since backed up that effort with a solid  1 ½ length 2nd of 6 over C&D 7-days ago. Drops back into Class 6 company here and remains competitively weighted. Given her present vein of form should go close.

Cheers

Tuesday Selections – February 14th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s selections are from Ayr and Newcastle.

Ayr

4:30 – Gentleman De Mai – 3/1 @ Coral – A winner of a novice hurdle here (good) last season.  First two efforts this season in handicap hurdles were promising but he was very disappointing at Newcastle last month. Has the physique to make a chaser and is respected on first start over the larger obstacles with the cheekpieces applied for the first time.

Newcastle

6:30 – Sir Robin – 7/2 @ Bet365 – Showed the benefit of a recent run when winning at Southwell 14-days ago. That was a Class 3 handicap and he’s 7lb higher in a better race. However, he’s going the right way and there should be more to come the 4-year-old.

Cheers

John
