Today’s selections are from Wetherby, Cheltenham and Lingfield.
Wetherby
1:54 – Erne River – 7/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes – Developed into a very useful novice chaser two seasons back. Indeed, was sent off the 11/4 second favourite for a Grade 1 at Aintree’s 2022 Grand National Festival. He seemed to lose his way last season over hurdles after a promising seasonal return over fences. Needed the run when beating home only one rival in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree on his return to action. He’s dropped 4lb since that run and can now race in Class 3 company. The Yard had a welcome winner this week.
Cheltenham
3:30 – Gyenyame – 11/2 @ Bet365 & Coral – A winner of a Wincanton maiden hurdle in February made a solid seasonal reappearance when a 1 ¼ length 2nd of 12 back at Wincanton 20 days ago. Up 3lb and in a better race but should go well again.
Lingfield
2:36 – Blue Trail – 9/2 @ Bet365 & Ladbrokes – Won two of his first four starts on the all-weather as a 3-year-old. He looked much improved when making all to win a valuable Meydan handicap in February. Nowhere near that level of form when a 9 lengths 5th of 7 to a stablemate in a Group 3 at Newmarket in April and returns for the first time since. Seems likely to get an uncontested lead and if he does, he could be hard to peg back like at Meydan.
