Hi all,
First Receiver did the business for us in good style at Kempton yesterday. However, Sexy Beast set to strong a pace and set it up for the closers at Newcastle.
Racing returns to the turf for the first time with Yarmouth hosting a ten-race card on what looks likely to be really quick ground. There’s also another fixture at Kempton which includes the Group 3 Classic Trial normally run at Sandown.
Three selections today. Two from Yarmouth and one from Kempton.
Yarmouth
12:45 – Celestran – 11/4 @ Coral & Bet365 – Had shaped with promise on his Newmarket racecourse debut before going onto win a Wolverhampton novice 200-days ago. The colt makes his handicap debut of what looks a workable mark of 82 and looks the sort who should have improved over the winter. Trainer John Gosden & jockey Rab Havlin are 12 winners from 29 runners 41% +8.74 when teaming up together at Yarmouth since the start of 2016.
4:15 – Rum Baba – 4/1 @ Coral & Bet365 – Trainer Charlie Fellowes is more than capable of getting ready to win after a long break. He saddles the lightly raced Rum Baba who ended last season with a win in a Windsor maiden last July. That win came on good to firm ground so the 4-year-old shouldn’t be inconvenienced by underfoot conditions. Makes his handicap debut off a mark of 79 which the lightly raced 4-year-old should be competitive off.
Kempton
4:30 – Purgatory – 9/2 @ Coral & Bet365 – The 4-year-old improved with racing last season winning three of his last four starts, including over C&D in September. He doesn’t tend to win his races by much so a 6lb rise in the weights for his last win (on turf) could still underestimate him. The forecast strong pace should suit and he’s got a big chance if fit enough on his first start for 233-days.
Cheers
John
