Always good to get off the mark after a break with yesterday’s 11/4 winner. Racing resumes at Kempton on Tuesday with a bumper nine race card and there’s another ten-race card at Newcastle.
I have selections from both meetings today.
Kempton
3:55 – First Receiver – 7/4 @ Bet365 – Sir Michael Stoute had a winner at Newcastle yesterday and hopefully he can have another one here. First Receiver looked in need of the run before finishing third on his racecourse debut at Newmarket last July. The son of New Approach wasn’t seen again until November when finishing 2nd of 14 over C&D. The colt has been subject to good reports on the Newmarket gallops. He sets the standard on form and barring a Group horse lurking among his 11 rivals, can get off the mark here
5:25 – Sexy Beast – 11/4 @ Bet365 – It maybe significant that William Knight sends up Unit Of Assessment up from his Sussex base and Andrea Atzeni who was in the saddle when the 6-year-old won at Goodwood 12 months ago is back in the saddle. However, I’m siding with another long-distance raider from the Ed De Giles yard in the shape of Sexy Beast. The 5-year-old returned from 581-day break when finishing runner-up over C&D in February. There were only four runners in that race but it was run in a decent time so the form looks solid enough.
